Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply eye cream?

Apply eye cream after cleansing, toning, applying essence, ampoule, and/or serum, and after using a sheet mask, but before applying moisturiser and SPF. Follow these steps:

  • Dispense a pea-sized amount of product onto your fingertips.
  • Use your ring finger to gently dot the eye cream below your eyes, starting from the inner corner and working your way out.
  • Gently pat to encourage absorption, taking care not to rub the skin, as the area under the eyes is thin and sensitive.

Some eye creams come with custom applicators that can be used to apply the cream directly to the skin

What does eye cream do?

Eye creams are moisturisers formulated specifically for the delicate skin around your eyes, which is up to 10 times thinner than the rest of your face. That fragile area is also where you'll see early signs of ageing, dark circles, puffiness, and dehydration first, which is why dedicated products exist.

Different eye creams target different concerns. Look for peptides and retinol for fine lines and firming, caffeine for puffiness, niacinamide and vitamin C for brightening dark circles, and ceramides or hyaluronic acid for hydration.

Apply with your ring finger (the lightest touch) by gently patting, never rubbing. A pea-sized amount is plenty. Cult favourites in our community: Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum, ANUA Heartleaf Multi-Recovery Eye Cream, and Klairs Vitamin E Mask for night-time use.

Do you put eye cream on before or after moisturiser?

The standard rule is eye cream first, moisturiser after. The thinking is that eye creams contain finer, more delicate active ingredients designed for the thinner skin around your eyes, and you want those to absorb first before sealing them in with moisturiser.

If you find that order causes pilling (when products roll up into little balls on your skin), swap the order. There's no rule that breaking the convention will hurt your skin.

One thing to avoid either way: don't apply face moisturiser to your undereye area itself. Face moisturisers are formulated for thicker skin and can be too rich for the eye area, potentially clogging pores or contributing to milia (those tiny white bumps that appear under the eye area).

Cult favourites in our community: Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum (lightweight enough for layering), ANUA Heartleaf Multi-Recovery Eye Cream, and Klairs Vitamin E Mask for richer overnight nourishment.
